Learn how to safely reset The End dimension without affecting the Overworld.
Learn how to safely reset The End dimension without affecting the Overworld.
Introduction
You may want to reset your End dimension for a number of reasons. End cities get looted, the Ender Dragon fight can get stuck in a weird state and players run out of reasons to go back. This guide will help you reset The End, without bothering the Overworld or the Nether.
Before You Start
Before starting the reset process, consider doing the following:
- Back up your world first. Consider following other guides for doing this:

How to Download Your Minecraft World from Your Server
If it's a Multiplayer server, Warn your players if anyone has any unclaimed loot or an unopened dragon egg is in The End.
Ender Chests will not be affected by the reset. Their contents belong to the player, not the dimension.
Reset The End (Vanilla, 26.1+)
- Stop the server from your panel.

worldby default unless you've set a customlevel-nameinserver.properties.
- Inside your world folder, find the
dimensionsfolder, then theminecraftfolder.
- Delete the
the_endfolder (otherwise, rename it to something else likethe_end_oldif you'd rather archive it instead).

- Restart your server.
Reset The End (Vanilla, 1.21.11 or earlier)
- Stop the server from your panel.

- Open your File Manager (or connect via SFTP).

- Navigate to your world folder. It's named
worldby default unless you've set a customlevel-nameinserver.properties.
- Inside your world folder, find the
DIM1folder. This holds everything End dimension related, including terrain, End cities, gateways and the End Dragon fight state.
- Delete the
DIM1folder (otherwise, rename it to something else likeDIM1_oldif you'd rather archive it instead).
- Restart your server.
Reset The End (Paper)
If your server is running on Paper software, it's easier:
- Stop the server from your panel.

- Open your File Manager (or connect via SFTP).

- You should already be in your root directory, that's where the
world_endfolder lives.
- Delete the
world_endfolder (otherwise, rename it to something else likeworld_end_oldif you'd rather archive it instead).
- Restart your server.
What Doesn't Change
- Your Overworld and Nether dimensions remain the same.
- Ender Chest contents are completely safe.
- Anything players already collected before the reset stays exactly where they put it.
