Learn how to safely reset the Nether on your Minecraft server without affecting your Overworld.

Over time, players explore vast areas of the Nether, depleting resources like Netherite, quartz, and fortresses, or cluttering the dimension with unwanted builds. Resetting the Nether dimension allows you to completely regenerate a fresh, brand-new world for you and your players to explore.

Stop Your Server Safely

Before deleting or modifying any world files, you must completely stop your server to prevent file corruption or data loss.

  1. Go to your MCServerHost dashboard and open the Console.
  2. Type the stop command and hit enter:
stop
  1. Wait until the server console confirms the server is fully offline.

Locate and Delete the Nether Folder

Minecraft separates dimensions into individual folders inside your main world directory.

  1. Navigate to your MCServerHost dashboard and open the File Manager.
  2. Open your main world folder (usually named world, unless you renamed it in your server.properties).
  3. Locate the folder named DIM-1 (this is the Nether dimension).

Note: Do not delete the DIM1 folder with a positive one, as that is the End dimension!

  1. Select the DIM-1 folder, click delete, and confirm.

Restart Your Server

Once the Nether folder has been deleted, your server's world generator will automatically recreate a fresh, untouched Nether dimension the next time it boots up.

  1. Return to your server control panel and click Start. Restart
  2. Once the server is online, enter the Nether portal to verify that the dimension has been successfully reset.

You've reached the end of this tutorial! By now, your server's Nether dimension is completely fresh and ready for new adventures. Grab your friends and explore the newly regenerated wasteland! (:
