What is Dynmap?
Dynmap is a plugin that renders a live, interactive map of your world that players can open in a web browser. It updates in real time, so you can see players, chat messages, and even the current time and weather. Find it on Modrinth at modrinth.com/plugin/dynmap.
Getting Started & Installation
- Download Dynmap from modrinth.com/plugin/dynmap.
- Pick the version that matches your server software and Minecraft version (Dynmap supports Spigot, Paper, Bukkit, Fabric and Forge).
- Use the File Manager in your server panel to go into the plugins folder (or mods folder for Fabric/Forge).
- Upload the downloaded .jar file there.
- Restart your server so it loads.

Adding a Port Allocation
The map runs on its own port, so you'll need a port allocation for it before configuring it:
- Go to the Network tab in your server panel and click New Allocation.
- Note the random port you receive.

Configuring Dynmap
The first restart creates the config in plugins/dynmap/configuration.txt (or mods/dynmap/configuration.txt on Fabric/Forge). Open it with the File Manager to tweak these:
- webserver-port: set this to the port from your allocation.
- deftemplatesuffix: controls map quality. hires gives the detailed HD renderer; standard is lighter on the server.
- defaultrenderers: which 3D renderer to use. The defaults work for most servers.
- max-tiles: how many tiles get written per update. Lower it if your server is slow.
- marker-icons: sets the folder for custom map marker icons.
Save, then restart (or run /dynmap reload) for changes to apply.

Opening the Map
Open your browser and go to: http://IP:PORT

Replace IP:PORT with your allocation's address and port. You can also type /dynmap in-game to get the map URL in chat.
Essential Commands
- /dynmap fullrender: renders the whole world at once. Needs dynmap.fullrender permission.
- /dynmap: shows the map URL and dynmap commands in chat.
Important Considerations
- Rendering Time: The map starts black and fills in as Dynmap renders chunks in the background. Big worlds take a while. Progress messages show when a render finishes.
- Players On the Map: Players show up on the map with their skin, and can chat from the map with the right permission.
- Permissions: The dynmap.webregister permission lets players log in and chat from the map. It's applied by default.
- Port Setting: The allocation port and the webserver-port in configuration.txt must match, or the map won't load.
Conclusion
With Dynmap installed, you and your players can view your whole world in a browser. It renders on its own, so you just set it up once and it does the rest.
