Running a multiplayer Minecraft server can sometimes come with unexpected hiccups. This guide covers some of the most common server issues you might encounter on your MCServerHost server and how to quickly resolve them.
Connection Timed Out / Can't Reach Server

- The Cause: This usually happens when the server is offline, restarting, or your IP address/port has changed.
- The Fix:
- Go to your MCServerHost dashboard and make sure the server status is Online.
- Double-check that you are using the exact server IP and port provided in your panel.
- Restart your Minecraft game client and try connecting again.
Server Lag and Low TPS
- The Cause: Too many entities, overloaded redstone contraptions, heavy plugins, or insufficient RAM allocation can cause your server to lag.
- The Fix:
- Clear out excessive entities or unoptimized farms using automated cleanup plugins.
- Upgrade your server plan's via your MCServerHost dashboard if your player count or modpack demands more resources.
"Outdated Client" or "Outdated Server" Error

- The Cause: A version mismatch between your game client and the server's software. Minecraft requires both to run the exact same version.
- The Fix:
- Check your server's software version in your control panel.
- Update your Minecraft launcher profile to match the server's exact version (e.g., updating from 1.20.4 to 1.20.5), or update your server software version to match yours.
Failed to login: Invalid session

The Cause: This error occurs when your Minecraft launcher loses connection to the Microsoft authentication servers, your login token expires, you are trying to join an online-mode server with an outdated session, or you are using a cracked launcher.
The Fix:
- Completely close both your Minecraft game and the Minecraft Launcher.
- Log out of your account in the launcher, log back in with your Microsoft account to refresh your session token, and restart your game.
- If you are using a cracked launcher or running an offline server, ensure
online-mode=falseis set in your server'sserver.propertiesfile.
